This cockatiel can whistle the song from the movie “My Neighbour Totoro” perfectly! This video was viral some time ago but we thought it would deserve some attention again, as it’s one of the cutest things ever seen on the internet.
What are cockatiels, anyways, and how do they get to whistle actual songs like this? First off, cockatiels, also known as quarrion and weiro, are a particular type of parrot coming directly from Australia. They often end up being companion pets, thanks to their ability at adapting to new environments.
The reason why parrots, in general, talk, is simple: they are social animals, and in the jungle they just keep chipping and talking to each other. Once they are not in a jungle anymore, but in someone’s house, they quickly learn how to repeat what their new human friends say, and won’t hesitate to exaggerate with that if they have the chance.
Basically, a parrot that developed a good relationship with their human friend could be capable of repeating almost anything. This time, the human friend was probably a fan of Studio Ghibli movies, and decided to teach the lovely Cockatiel the “Totoro” song. Well, great choice, we say!
