This instrument is known as a waterphone and it’s often used to create creepy sounds in movies. It is an inharmonic acoustic percussion instrument and consists of a stainless steel resonator with a cylindrical ‘neck’ and bronze rods of various lenghts and diameters across the rim of the bowl. The instrument was invented by way of Richard Waters in 1968 or 1969. Waterphones had been used in films like The Matrix (1999), Aliens (1986), and others.
