Taking note of the issue, Apple initiated an investigation and it was found that a select batch of iPhone 6S series devices manufactured in September and October 2015 are the ones with faulty battery. It asked the affected users to return the device to the company’s store and get the battery replaced free of cost.

To help ease the confusion, Apple has now come up with an online tool on its support page, which helps the device owners know whether they are eligible for free battery service.
